We are looking for a dynamic and experienced youth worker with the ability to work both on an operational level with young people and strategically through the development of partnerships with other agencies who provide specialist drug & alcohol support.

The post is a three year fixed term contract and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to gain professional development through access to DANOS (Drug and Alcohol National Occupational Standards) competency based training.

This will give you the opportunity to meet the Trustees, staff and young people of Base 33, learn about our work and share stories of our achievements. It will also provide an opportunity to meet and network with other guests attending the AGM (invitation list attached). Light refreshments will be served at this event.

At 7pm we will move to the Congregational Church for our Annual General Meeting at 7.15pm.

We were delighted to be one of only 20 groups out 145 applications to be given funding for our Job Base project.

In May we launched an exciting and innovative project aimed at enabling young unemployed people to gain the skills and confidence to be ready and able to apply for jobs, go on to further education or gain work experience through apprenticeships.

In July we completed the first of three Job Base projects that will run until March 2012.

The Base 33 'crew'

A YOUTH centre in Witney has been saved thanks to support from Oxford Mail readers, businesses and the Prime Minister.

Last month, Base 33 in High Street faced the prospect of cutting 75 per cent of its work within weeks.

Support for teenage mothers, schemes to get young people into work and drop-in services were under threat after public donations dried up.

But readers of the Oxford Mail and our sister paper the Witney Gazette jumped to its aid, donating more than £10,000 since a story highlighting its plight four weeks ago.

 The service was launched in response to discussion with young people, local schools and other partners and an identified need to provide an alternative health service for young people that find it hard to visit their doctor. We know from experience that young people involved in risky behaviour can be reluctant to visit a doctor’s surgery for fear of questions from the receptionist and/or seeing someone they know.
